Joely Richardson Shares Childhood Photo with Late Sister Natasha as She Reflects on Turning 60

Joely Richardson is reflecting on her sister Natasha Richardson's death while looking ahead.

Joely, who turned 60 back on Jan. 9, shared a throwback black-and-white photo of herself and her late sister Natasha, who died in 2009 at 45, to Instagram on Sunday, Jan. 26 as she wrote about how it felt to turn 60 earlier this month.

"Me and my sister Tasha. On my birthday people seemed astonished that I was happy to be turning sixty. Why wouldn’t I be? It’s not like the numbers jumped from 25 to 60," Joely wrote in a caption to her post. "All the years and decades in between were LIVED. Now I get to be this number and investigate how I find it . ‘60 is the new 40’ people say- I say ‘why does it need to be? I did that one 2 decades ago.' "

" 'Age is just a number ‘ is commonly said , but it’s not . It’s a badge saying I made it to this station on the road. So many didn’t, so , it’s a blessing x x @twilighttrees #arentwelucky," she added in the caption to her post.

Joely and Natasha are the daughters of actress Vanessa Redgrave and Vanessa's ex Tony Richardson. Natasha was known for her roles in movies like The Parent Trap and Maid in Manhattan, as well as her performances on the stage; she won a Tony Award in 1998 for her performance in Cabaret.

Natasha was married to actor Liam Neeson from 1994 until 2009, when she died from a brain hemorrhage she suffered after a skiing accident. The couple first met while working on the 1993 Broadway production of Anna Christie; they shared sons Micheál and Daniel, now 29 and 28, respectively.

Joely has shared multiple posts detailing her thoughts on her birthday to Instagram in recent weeks.

"Big Birthdays, fascinating. It has made me think a lot about TIME , but I’m also really fascinated as a woman to see what 60 will be like," she wrote in an Instagram post shared on Jan. 8 that featured a photo of her holding a dog as she sat against a window. "Nicer rounder more loving numbers than 59. As a Capricorn , old goat as it were, you're climbing a mountain and you get to put a flag on 60. I made it to this. Very grateful x."
