Jimmy Fallon says “Tonight Show”'s “Hot Ones” segment 'almost killed' Selena Gomez: 'Never seen her like that'
"We didn't talk to each other for another three years," the late-night host quipped.
Jimmy Fallon and Hot Ones host Sean Evans are looking back at the time they very nearly killed Selena Gomez.
While trying his hand at the Hot Ones gauntlet in an episode posted Thursday, the Tonight Show host recalled his experience taking on the spicy chicken wing challenge with Gomez as part of a 2019 late-night segment. While Fallon and Gomez both passed the test, which was hosted by Evans, Gomez could be seen chugging glasses of milk and crying by the end due to all the heat.
"You almost killed an American treasure," Fallon recalled. "Selena Gomez, she left and ran out; I went and knocked on her dressing room door [and] she was throwing up in her sink."

Evans added that the moment is his "favorite 30 Rock memory ever." Gomez, however, appeared to have the exact the opposite reaction, given her response when Fallon decided to open her dressing room door to check in on her.
"I go, 'Selena,' and she goes, "Get the F out!' with a devil voice," Fallon recalled as Evans began to laugh. "I've never seen her like that — spit was dripping out of her mouth — and I go, 'I'm so sorry.' And we didn't talk to each other for another three years."
Evans still remembered what Fallon told him after the spicy encounter, adding, "When she said that to you and you closed the door, you looked at me and you go, 'She's doing great.'"
Fallon underwent a condensed version of the Hot Ones challenge multiple times on The Tonight Show, with stars including Gomez, J.J. Watts, and Priyanka Chopra. Prior to eating the wings, the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place star joked that she would likely "regret" agreeing to the experience.
Gomez managed to make it through almost all the wings before the unforgiving Da Bomb Beyond Insanity Sauce made her start to cry, walk around, sip milk, and lick the tablecloth to try and remove some of the excess heat.
"This is horrible!" she shouted at one point. Turning to Evans, she later pleaded, "Why do you do this to people?"
Given her physical reaction the first go-around, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Gomez has yet to make an official appearance on Hot Ones in the years since her first brush with the wings of death. But maybe it's finally time for round 2?
