Jimmy Fallon on Monday zinged a report that President-elect Donald Trump is sick of Elon Musk hanging around too much. (Watch the video below.)
“Today, Trump jumped into a broom closet to hide from Elon, and Melania was like, ‘Hey, get your own spot!’” the “Tonight Show” host joked.
Musk, whom Trump appointed to head up his unofficial Department of Government Efficiency, is reportedly invading the incoming president’s space down in Mar-a-Lago.
The X owner took up residence at a cottage on the estate over Christmas. That was after he perhaps got under Trump’s skin when he became known as the “shadow president” for seemingly wielding growing influence. Musk even used threats on politicians to scuttle a Congressional budget vote last month.
New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman said the tech mogul’s physical proximity is now grating on Trump, who’s set to return to the White House on Jan. 20.
“Trump does complain a bit to people about how Musk is around a lot,” Haberman said on a podcast recently. “He really parked himself in Trump’s face.”
As for Fallon’s sly inference that first lady Melania Trump is perhaps feeling cramped by her husband, it’s no secret that she may be spending less time at the White House this time around.
So perhaps no closet is necessary at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
