Yahoo Lifestyle 'Jeopardy' Contestant Thanks Celine Dion, Goes Overboard After He Flubs Dion Clue
Drew Goins got that sinking feeling on Friday’s “Jeopardy” after he shouted out to pop legend Celine Dion in the intro and then missed a clue about her. (Watch the video below.)
The contestant played the embarrassing moment for laughs by walking off of the stage and getting a conciliatory hug from one of his opponents, Mehal Shah.
Goins, competing in the game show’s Champions Wildcard tournament, delivered his gratitude for the “My Heart Will Go On” singer during his intro chat with host Ken Jennings.
“John the producer suggested, long story, that I thank Celine Dion,” Goins said. “So, thank you, Celine Dion.”
“Does she know what she did?” Jennings asked.
“Oh, she does,” Goins replied. “Deep down.”
Fast-forward to a $2,000 clue in the category ”’90s No. 1 Hits”: “Sharing its title with an earlier, more upbeat Huey Lewis hit, it was No. 1 for Celine Dion in 1994.”
The embarrassed player was stumped along with the other players.
“Oh, she’s going to be mad, Drew,” Jennings said.
The correct answer was “The Power of Love.”
Goins blurted out an excuse for his miss.
“I was born in 1994!”
The journalist from Hawaii took second to Shah in the final but still qualified for the Tournament of Champions.
Earlier this month, Goins redeemed himself for a previous miss on a Taylor Swift clue.
Perhaps he’ll get a chance in the Tournament of Champions to make up for his Dion blunder as well.
