Jennifer Saunders reveals what she believes is the secret to her 37-year marriage
Jennifer Saunders has revealed what she believes is the simple secret to her 37-year marriage.
The comedy star, 63, wed husband Ade Edmondson – also a comedian and actor – in 1985.
Speaking to the Mail On Sunday's You magazine, she said: "We’re lucky, neither of us really likes arguing.
"We just mess about and make jokes. I’m very unconfrontational."
The long-standing couple share three daughters – Ella, 36, Beattie, 34, and Freya, 31.
Saunders recalled how she and her husband had tried to raise their children in a grounded way, despite their fame.
She explained: "We keep why we are working at the forefront of our minds. Making sure our kids are happy and having a nice time is more important to us than anything."
The star also noted that she had never had a row with her long-time comedy partner Dawn French, with whom she appeared in French and Saunders.
Saunders said that the pair both know that "any good friendship is about compromise" and that it would be futile to "dig your heels in".
The Absolutely Fabulous star also discussed why she "never" wanted to watch herself on TV.
She said: "It takes a sort of Kardashian mindset to want to look at yourself and go, 'Oh, if only I’d moved my head that way. Next time remind me I must do this…'
"If you think that way you just become idiotic."
