Jenna Bush Hager Sparks 'Slippers' vs. 'House Shoes' Debate on TikTok: Which Do You Say?
"Do you call them slippers or house shoes?," the TV host, 42, asked her followers on the social media platform
Jenna Bush Hager’s choice of footwear has sparked a heated debate on TikTok.
The Today co-host, 42, shared a recent TikTok clip where she posed a question to her followers about her footwear: what do you call the comfortable slides you wear around the house?
“Do you call these house shoes or slippers?” she asked her viewers, speaking to the camera as someone films her about to get into a town car. “I call ‘em house shoes, and I’m wearing them on the streets of New York.”
Wearing a black shirt with gold buttons along the shoulders, jeans, a tan purse and suede, light-colored slides, Bush Hager bid the camera farewell before hopping in the car, leaving her commenters to start debating what kind of shoes she was wearing in the comments below.
Many of her followers left a comment describing exactly what they called the shoes and where they were from.
One Texan wrote that they called them “house shoes,” while one Mississippian called them “slippers.” Another common name for the slides was “bedroom shoes” — commenters from South Carolina and Georgia confirmed that they had an alternate name for the comfy shoes.
“I think it’s a southern vs north difference,” one TikTok viewer posited. “Northerners call them slippers.”
Bush Hager is no stranger to stirring up impassioned fashion discussions — from her dislike of wearing underwear to she revisiting past White House looks from her childhood, including one she recently called simply “hideous.”
On Monday, the former first daughter shared a photo during a Today segment taken of her and her twin sister, Barbara Pierce Bush, at a White House Christmas party during her grandfather, President George H.W. Bush's presidency.

In the throwback, Bush Hager is pictured with her grandfather, her grandmother Barbara Bush and her sister while wearing a yellow button-up shirt, dark floral tie and plaid skirt.
“I have one outfit that really stands the test of time. And ‘stand the test of time’ means it's just hideous,” Bush Hager joked to co-host Hoda Kotb. “The boy to the right is me in the tie and the mustard shirt.”

Also on Today, Bush Hager tried out a new ‘do that she said made her look like her mother, former First Lady Laura Bush. Sporting a Lisa Rinna-inspired wig during a joke segment, Kotb disagreed, stating that she looked like “someone from the '60s with cigarette pants, smoking a cigarette.”
