Jay-Z Rocked a Rare Patek Philippe Grand Complication Watch at the Champions League Final
Real Madrid may have won the Champions League final against Dortmund, but Jay-Z won the watch game on Saturday.
The billionaire rapper-turned-entrepreneur wore a rare Patek Philippe Grand Complication (Ref. 5271/11P) to the nail-biting soccer match at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 6. Hov was at the game to support his client Vinícius Júnior—the Real Madrid forward joined Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports after the company acquired TFM Agency last July—and made quite a horological statement as he cheered from the sidelines.

Released in 2022, this particular Patek is a bejeweled version of the Swiss watchmaker’s legendary perpetual calendar chronograph Ref. 5271. The blingy piece is available in two different iterations, with sapphires and a blue lacquered dial (Ref. 5271/11P) or rubies and a red lacquered dial (Ref. 5271/12P).
Mr. Carter’s Ref. 5271/11P features a 41 mm platinum case and a total of 80 blue baguette-cut sapphires (5.16 carats) on the bezel, lugs, and clasp. The lacquered blue dial showcases a black-gradient rim and gold-applied hour markers, while the shiny black alligator strap is finished with contrasting blue stitching. The timepiece also comes with interchangeable solid and sapphire crystal casebacks.
The wrist candy is powered by the CH 29-535 PS Q caliber. The in-house, hand-wound movement drives a day and month indicator at 12 o’clock, a 30-minute totalizer at three o’clock, a leap year display at five o’clock, a calendar and moon phase at six o’clock, a day/night window at seven o’clock and a small seconds counter at nine o’clock. All that watchmaking comes at a cost, naturally. Ref. 5271/11P retails for $335,500, though can demand as much as $1 million on the secondary market.
Jay-Z has no qualms about showing off his enviable collection of Pateks. The “Hard Knock Life” singer flexed an Annual Calendar Chronograph (Ref. 5961R) at a Lakers game and the Grammys earlier this year. He also rocked a Grand Complication Celestial (Ref. 6102R) at a Beyoncé show in Houston last year. In addition, Hov has been spotted wearing a platinum version of the Celestial (Ref. 6102P), a Grandmaster Chime (Ref. 6300G), a Perpetual Calendar (Ref. 5004), and another Perpetual Calendar (Ref. 2499). Let’s see what his next Patek flex will be.
