How I Met Your Mother alums Jason Segel and Cobie Smulders are staging their first on-screen reunion since starring on the CBS sitcom for nine seasons from 2005 to 2014. Stepping outside of MacLaren's Pub, the pair are venturing onto Segel's hit Apple TV+ series, Shrinking.
In PEOPLE's first look at the legen—wait for it—dary moment, occurring in the Wednesday, Dec. 11 episode, Jimmy (Segel) arrives at Sophie's (Smulders) home to purchase a yellow Volkswagen vehicle. Jimmy's next-door neighbor, Derek (Ted McGinley), is by his side attempting to help and inspecting the car by banging on it.

Meanwhile, Jimmy and Sophie have a proper introduction with the former noting that it was "nice to meet you."
"Feel free to take a look," says Sophie, though Jimmy admits he knows "nothing about cars" as he makes up faux car terminology to sound knowledgeable.
Fortunately (or, unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), Derek steps in to provide his so-called expertise, noting that Sophie's vehicle is "not exactly mint." Derek then asks Sophie how much she wants for the car and when she reveals her asking price is $5,000, Derek instantly says: "Sold!"

Cobie Smulders on Shrinking."Oh! I was just expecting some more back and forth," says Sophie as Jimmy replies, "I was too."
As Sophie steps away to retrieve the necessary paperwork, Jimmy questions Derek on why they didn't negotiate more — and Derek has his reasons.
"No wedding ring, modest house, kids bike in the yard," Derek says. "You really want me to shake down some nice, single and, uh, by the way, very cute mom, just for a couple hundred bucks, Jimmy? You spend that in lotion."
To that, Jimmy says, "So, when you said you were good at negotiating..."
"Morally good," Derek adds.

Cobie Smulders on Shrinking.Segel stars on Shrinking alongside Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie and Lukita Maxwell. Newcomers to the series — which Segel co-created and executive produces — in its second season also include Damon Wayans Jr. and fellow co-creator/executive producer Brett Goldstein.
Before his turn as widower therapist Jimmy, Segel starred as the loveable and goofy Marshall Eriksen on How I Met Your Mother alongside Smulders' Robin Scherbatsky. Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby), Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson) and Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin) also starred in the series. Cristin Milioti joined in season nine as the titular mother while the late Bob Saget served as the narrator for future Ted Mosby.

Although some of the cast have reunited off-screen in the years since the original series ended (and there will soon be a mini-reunion as the show creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas's band, The Solids, performs in NYC in January), Segel and Smulders' appearance together on Shrinking marks the first time cast members have hit the small screen together since 2014.
