Jacob Elordi's Fear of Falling Flat on His Face at “SNL” Comes True — Watch the “Saltburn” Star's '80s-Style Promo
The actor will make his hosting debut on the famed late-night comedy show on Saturday
Jacob Elordi’s nerves are getting the better of him as he gears up for his Saturday Night Live debut.
In the first promo for the Saltburn star’s hosting gig, released Wednesday, Elordi, 26, can’t get himself to take the first step — literally.
He stands at the top of the staircase of the main SNL backdrop, where he’ll make his entrance and perform a monologue to kick off Saturday’s show, but refuses to actually make his way down, despite encouragement from cast members Marcello Hernández and Punkie Johnson.
“Hey man, you good?” Johnson asks Elordi as he stares at the steps with a daunting look in his eye.
“They all make it look so easy,” the actor whispers to himself as a reel of past hosts making their entrance — including Kim Kardashian and Zac Efron — plays over the screen.
“He looking at the stairs?” Hernández asks, and the two comedians get to work trying to help Elordi make the descent. Between scooting down one stair at a time on his butt, attempting to descend head-first and testing out a running start, the Priscilla star can’t quite get to the bottom of the stage.
On his final attempt, he enters from the doorway, waving at an imaginary crowd, and Hernández says, “You got it, buddy,” while Johnson encourages, “Let’s go, J.”
Despite his best efforts, Elordi only reaches the stage when his shoe gets caught on a mat, catapulting him through the air and over the staircase. He lands facedown on the floor with a grunt.
The SNL cast members use that moment to abandon the fledgling host while he groans from the fall, mumbling, “I’m good, I’m good.”
Elordi’s SNL hosting debut was announced in December, and Saturday’s show marks the first episode of 2024.
The news received roaring applause online, as stars from Sofia Coppola to Rachel Zegler reacted to the gig in comments on Elordi’s Instagram post.
“So excited!” wrote Coppola, who directed the actor in Priscilla.
Reneé Rapp is slated as the night’s musical guest. She reacted enthusiastically to the news on Instagram, writing, “yeah you’ve got to be f---ing kidding me.”
Since Pete Davidson kicked off the show's 49th season as the host of the premiere episode in October, stars including Bad Bunny, Nate Bargatze, Timothée Chalamet, Jason Momoa, Emma Stone, Adam Driver and Kate McKinnon have been tapped as host.
