It is being developed for S4C by Hiraeth Productions, Fun Republic Pictures and Karma Film, in association with Gendel’s Cashmere Road Entertainment and BAI-LEY as part of S4C International’s Commercial Content Fund, which is designed to realize opportunities for global content across various platforms.

“We are thrilled with the transatlantic team we have assembled to create this ambitious new eco-thriller series,” Gwenllian Gravelle, Drama Commissioner at S4C said in a statement Friday. “We always strive to punch above with our original Welsh series development slate and (Morgan) Gendel’s Isolation does just that for us”.

Asa Bailey, Anand Ramayya and Fun Republic’s David Cormican will also produce. Executive producers include Gendel, Cormican, Mirror Waters’ Christina Rose and Terra Firma’s Peter Nelson.

Gendel has spent three decades as a screenwriter, producer and showrunner. He is perhaps best known as writer of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, “The Inner Light,” which earned him the Hugo Award for Science Fiction Writing. He has written and produced for multiple series including Law & Order (for which he received an Emmy nomination), The 100, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Nash Bridges, The Dresden Files, MTV’s Spider Man and V.I.P.

Prior to his writing career, Gendel also worked as the Director of Current Drama for NBC Entertainment and as a staff reporter for the Los Angeles Times. He also consulted for NASA on lunar habitats and is founder of Planetary Shelter LLC, a company that is working to advance his own patented technology for temporary shelter to house displaced refugees here on Earth and astronaut-explorers on the Moon and Mars.

“Joining forces with S4C and BAI-LEY to develop Isolation, aligns with and builds upon our successful business model and track record working with like-minded European partners to deliver high-budget, flagship-worthy content to global audiences,” Cormican said in a statement. “It’s an added bonus that from a small pocket in Wales (Cymru), we may be able to help push the climate crisis agenda forward with this production landing at the crossroads between science, fiction and hopefully subsequent societal action”.
