Influencer Goes Viral for Preparing Thanksgiving Turkey in the Toilet: 'Don't Freak Out'

An influencer's video showing her preparing a Thanksgiving turkey inside a toilet has sparked an intense reaction online.

On Thursday, Nov. 27, Kate Heintzelman, known as @katiewilltryanything on Instagram, posted a video that showed her preparing a full-size Thanksgiving turkey in a toilet — complete with vegetables and a collection of seasonings.

“When it’s your turn to make Thanksgiving dinner, but you don’t know what you’re doing," Heintzelman captioned the video. "….also don’t freak out germs are killed at 140 degrees. I cooked this at 300.”

Once she was done stuffing the bird, Heintzelman topped it off with a large stick of butter. From there, she removed the turkey from the toilet and placed it inside the oven until it browned.

As expected, the majority of comments expressed their shock and outrage at her highly unorthodox approach to Thanksgiving turkey preparation.

“Most vile unhinged thing I've ever seen,” one Instagram user wrote. “I think this is why I don’t eat [at] nobody’s house,” commented another.

One user also questioned Heintzelman’s actions, writing “Are you okay?”

Boasting over 300,000 followers on the social media platform, Heintzelman’s Instagram bio says of her cooking style that she’s “Crafting fun recipes with a sprinkle of joy.”

Naturally, the U.S. Department of Agriculture does not recommend that you prepare a turkey in the toilet — although it does admit that "as with many things in life, when cooking a turkey you can do it the easy way, or you can do it the hard way."

"Shortly before you plan to put the turkey in the oven, prepare your stuffing, and stuff the turkey," its website advises. "When your food thermometer registers 165˚F in the innermost part of the thigh, the innermost part of the wing, the thickest part of the breast and the center of the stuffing, the turkey is ready. Remove the stuffing immediately and cover. Let the turkey stand for 15-20 minutes so the juices can settle, then it’s ready to carve."
