I'm a Health Editor and I Just Discovered A Life-Changing High-Protein Lunch Hack

Protein is having a moment. It's always been a hot topic in the health and wellness space, but I've rarely seen it get this much attention. I typically roll my eyes at the health trends that pop up on TikTok and beyond (hey, there are some scary ones!), but I have to admit that the protein frenzy has legs.

Protein is really important. It keeps our bodies strong by building muscle, helping to fuel our metabolisms. It also keeps us full, aiding in weight loss and weight maintenance efforts. While everyone is different and protein needs vary based on weight among other factors, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that women aim to get about 46 grams of protein per day and that men get about 56 grams of protein per day.

Personally, I find that quota hard to meet without eating a lot of red meat, which is both expensive and not great for me (a recent study found that processed red meat consumption is correlated with a 13% increase in dementia risk).

But I recently discovered an affordable, simple, high-protein lunch hack that still feels too good to be true: These Wild Planet Tuna and White Bean Salads.

With a whopping 21 grams of protein per can, my new go-to lunch is packed with protein, fiber and healthy fats. These little cans keep my blood sugar stable and satiated for hours, which is impressive considering they're only 360 calories.

I swear I don't work for them, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention that they're affordable, too—just five dollars a can! That's a lot less expensive than the salad place around the corner from my office. Plus, Wild Planet is a sustainable seafood brand, using 100% pole line and caught fish.

Long story short: I feel really good about my new lunch of choice, which requires zero preparation and brings me a lot more joy than a sad desk salad. You can find them at most major grocery stores, but they're also available on Amazon and Walmart.com. Enjoy!
