Between the adorable decor, shamelessly mushy declarations of love, and abundance of sweet treats, Valentine’s Day has always been one of my favorite holidays. This year, my calendar is chock-full of celebrations leading up to February 14, from Galentine’s Day dinners and movie nights with friends to fashion events and work happy hours.
Despite the fact that my closet full of pink, red, sparkles, and bows is already tailor-made for this holiday, I’m using my busy social agenda as an excuse for a wardrobe refresh. Below, I’m sharing cute Valentine’s Day outfit ideas for every occasion and budget, with editor-curated picks from Amazon, Nordstrom, J. Crew, and more.
Editor-Approved Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas
Budget-Friendly Staple: Amazon Essentials Lightweight Cardigan, $25; amazon.com
Your New Favorite Sweater: Madewell Double V-Neck Sweater, $138; madewell.com
Best Seller: J. Crew Sailor Sweater Trousers, $115 (Originally $158); jcrew.com

Amazon Essentials Lightweight Cardigan
PTCL Laser Cut Heart Jeans
One of my favorite ways to get into the Valentine’s Day spirit is to snuggle up on the couch and watch a romcom. To stay comfy while I get my You’ve Got Mail on, I’d probably opt for a cozy sweater and baggy jeans. I’ve been in the market for a versatile, fitted red cardigan and the $25 price tag on this Amazon Essentials style with more than 10,000 five-star ratings is a major selling point. I would pair it with these under-$50 heart cutout jeans from Nordstrom to really commit to the theme.
Zeagoo Satin Midi Skirt
Madewell Double V-Neck Sweater
This time of year, I’m often lucky enough to be invited to Valentine’s Day-themed fashion and beauty events, which are always fun to get dressed up for. I gravitate towards dressier outfits that are still comfortable, such as this sleek satin midi skirt in a gorgeous blush pink paired with a soft sweater. I love the fuzzy fabric of the Madewell Double V-Neck Sweater, and I’d finish the look with a pair of slingback kitten heels.
Maeve Mock-Neck Bow Muscle Tank
J. Crew Sailor Sweater Trousers
I’m obsessed with all things bow-related, so this black-and-white tank from Anthropologie is right up my alley. With the flirty print and flattering high neckline, I can easily envision this top becoming a staple in my wardrobe that would go with anything from jeans to a pleated mini skirt. For a Galentine’s Day brunch with my friends or even a day at the office, I would style it with the bright red J. Crew Sailor Sweater Trousers and ballet flats.
Free People Holly Plaid Maxi Dress
Coach Penn Shoulder Bag
Finally, no Valentine’s Day style guide would be complete without a fancy option for date night or, in my case, a dinner party with friends. My sense of style can best be described as bold and maximalist, so I was immediately drawn to the vibrant red plaid and full-skirt silhouette of this Free People maxi dress. Since this winter has been especially cold, I would layer it over a sheer black turtleneck and play up the punk princess vibe by accessorizing with motorcycle boots and this metallic Coach bag (which you can snag on sale if you act fast).
