I'm A Celebrity's Nathan Buckley on intense scrutiny after marriage breakdown

Former AFL legend and I'm A Celeb star Nathan Buckley has opened up about how shocked he was by the public attention on him after he split with his wife of 18 years Tania.

The sportsman spoke about the media attention he and Tania received after they announced the split, saying he was shocked by the interest in his life.

Fellow I'm A Celebrity contestant Beau Ryan asked Nathan if he has had much experience with paparazzi following him and he admitted he did.

"You would have been under the pump with paps?" Beau questioned.

"Yeah, only recently," Nathan responded, "I'm going through a separation. So, I've been out of home for 18 months, a bit over 18 months, nearly two years.

"And the paps are following my ex-wife, and sometimes with my boys, and also looking for photos with me with my current partner."

He added, "I've never understood it."

In a piece to camera, Beau added, "I feel in this world, paps are always going to be around but it’s all good until your family is involved. It’s like everything really. Nathan’s going through it now which is not a good feeling."

The couple confirmed they had split in December 2020 with Tania sharing a joint statement to her Instagram account, announcing they'd actually split up months earlier in January. They share two sons Jett, 15, and Ayce, 13.

"It has been a tough and challenging year for every family and for ours included," the statement read. "It is with the utmost of love and respect for each other and a true commitment to our sons, that we made a decision to separate in January.

"We remain dedicated parents and in the interests of our boys, we ask for our family to be given the privacy that is needed.

"We thank everyone in advance for understanding our request and for the unconditional love and support we have received throughout our marriage."

Nathan is now dating cosmetic nurse and mother-of-three Alex Pike with the pair first being spotted together in early 2021.
