Idina Menzel Reveals She Hasn’t ‘Read Any Scripts’ for ‘Frozen 3’ Just Yet (Exclusive)
It may be the dead of winter, but Idina Menzel isn’t heading back to Arendelle anytime soon.
Though it was announced that Frozen 3 would eventually make its way into theaters in 2027, the movie appears to be in a very early stage of development.
When asked for an update on the Disney film during her interview for Parade’s exclusive cover story, Menzel said, “I think it's happening, but that's all I know. I haven't read any scripts or anything, but I look forward to reuniting with my entire Frozen family and getting in that creative space and getting to get in the studio and find Elsa’s voice again.”
The actress, who currently stars in the new Broadway musical Redwood, which officially opens Feb. 13 at the Nederlander Theatre, has voiced the role of Elsa since Frozen debuted in 2013. She reprised the role in the 2019 sequel and is set to return for more Frozen when the third film of the series releases in late 2027.
Menzel has become known for the iconic roles she’s created throughout the years. Just a few months back, she surprised Wicked fans with a cameo alongside Kristin Chenoweth in the first part of the film adaptation as a nod to their time as Elphaba and Glinda.
“We had a blast,” Menzel exclusively told Parade. “Kristin and I just had so much fun. I think we really reveled in the idea that we were a part of creating this legacy and sort of passing the baton, and we were so touched by being included and Stephen Schwartz writing this cameo for us.”

Though she’s currently busy with her latest Broadway endeavor, Menzel said that she hopes to “keep doing original work.”
She explained, “I really love establishing and originating a character. I love supporting new artists and composers. This experience [in Redwood] for me has been so rewarding and fulfilling, to actually conceive of an idea and see it come to fruition. It's been a pattern for me to be in original pieces, and it’s something I’m very proud of. And so I want to do more of that. I always sort of want to be known for originating roles and taking risks, because it’s a risky thing to bring a brand-new story to the theater. So whether it’s a musical or a play or any of that, it’s more about working with brilliant, creative people that I think are much smarter than me, and bettering myself as an artist.”
