Created by Jack Rooke and based on his personal experiences, Big Boys has been a Channel 4 success story both critically and ratings-wise. The show follows the semi-fictional Jack, played by Derry Girls’ Dylan LLewellyn, a closeted shy student who is grieving his father’s death as he heads to university. There, he lives with mature student Danny (Jon Pointing), a lad about town figure who is in fact trying to disguise his own mental health issues. The second season premiered in January and a third was confirmed over the summer. Rooke scooped a BAFTA earlier this year for Writer, Comedy, and has been nominated for several more.

The move is a coup for the team behind Big Boys and producer Roughcut and comes as part of a multi-title deal between Fifth Season and Hulu.

Hulu has also bought docuseries Bad Host: Hunting the Couchsurfing Predator based on the hit podcast Verified, high-end reality format Hot Yachts and the third season of Canadian comedy Run the Burbs, having previously snapped up second window on the first two.

Travis Webb, SVP, Americas Distribution at Fifth Season, said: “As one of the leading US streaming services known for curating some of the best international series and films from around the world – we knew Hulu would be the ideal home for these titles. From the hilarious and heartwarming comedy of Big Boys to the shocking and powerful true crime documentary of Bad Host: Hunting the Couchsurfing Predator – this deal offers something for every Hulu subscriber to enjoy.”
