Home and Away star undergoes emergency triple bypass
Ray Meagher, one of Home and Away’s most recognised and well-loved faces, is recovering at home after a triple bypass.
The actor, 75, had the emergency procedure less than 24 hours after a routine checkup found his arteries had three major blockages - including one artery that was ‘100 per cent blocked’.
Grateful that the issue had been quickly picked up by his doctors, Ray told Melbourne’s Herald Sun he was about to go on holidays when he found himself preparing for surgery instead.
“We were all packed up and ready to drive north, but if we had gone without seeing the cardiologist, well, you could have a heart attack at the wheel, you kill yourself, you kill your wife, or some other poor innocent people. It’s just horrific to think what could have happened”.
Ray, who had planned a Queensland road trip with his wife Gilly during the show’s winter break, has since been discharged from hospital to continue his recovery at home.
According to 7 News, Ray, who plays Alf Stewart on the long-running soap, is expected to return to the Home and Away set in the coming weeks.
Filming break
The frightening health scare comes after happier news for fellow Home and Away stars James Stewart and Sarah Roberts, who used the show’s filming break to get married.
The pair tied the knot at Luttrellstown Castle, outside of Dublin, Ireland, which is where David and Victoria Beckham married in 1999.
James and Sarah met on the set of the show and made their relationship Instagram official in January 2018, before getting engaged in December that year. James shares a daughter with actress Jessica Marais, whom he split from in 2015.
