Hilton’s Luxury Brand Adds a Hawaii Property to Its Portfolio
The luxury hotel market in Honolulu has a new entrant with the rebranding and opening of Ka La’I Waikiki Beach, LXR Hotels & Resorts. The 462-room high-rise hotel—whose name means “peaceful and calm” in Hawaiian— is now part of the most prestigious of the Hilton Hotels’ brands and the first of that line in the state.
“We’re thrilled to expand our portfolio in this fabulous and vibrant destination,” says Danny Hughes, president, Americas, Hilton. “Hawaii has played an important role in Hilton’s history ever since Conrad Hilton purchased one of our most renowned hotels, Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, more than 60 years ago. We look forward to offering our guests another incredible location to experience the best of Honolulu and Hawaiian culture.”

The hotel—which is owned by Irongate, managed by LXR Hotels & Resorts, and part of the Hilton Honors guest loyalty program— is located above Fort DeRussy Park, just steps from the fabled sands of Waikiki Beach and close to the area’s renowned restaurants, luxe boutiques, entertainment, and nightlife. But there’s no need to leave the property for iconic panoramas: The 38-story building offers expansive views of the Pacific and Diamond Head from all its residential-style rooms and suites.
The hotel’s list of high-end amenities includes a state-of-the-art wellness and fitness center, an infinity pool with a generous sun deck, and two signature restaurants. Plus, accentuating the luxurious home-like atmosphere of the accommodations—which feature kitchenettes and other residential touches—guests may enjoy the services of a private chef for an in-suite gourmet dining experience.
There’s much more in store in the year ahead. The property, which is soon to celebrate its 15th anniversary, will undergo a thorough renovation of the interior architecture and design, under the direction of the award-winning Bryan O’Sullivan Studio. Beginning in early 2025 and phased over a number of months, the redesign will take its cue from the hotel’s natural surroundings, upgrading the guest accommodations and public areas, from the lobby interiors and the pool, spa, and fitness center to the exterior landscaping. Watch for stained-glass laylights that add subtle illumination as well as traditional carving techniques, and a furniture collection crafted specifically for the hotel. The renovation will pay homage to the building’s history and also showcase local materials and the island’s natural world.
“The debut of LXR Hotels & Resorts in Waikiki Beach underscores our commitment to delivering world-class hospitality in the most coveted destinations,” says Feisal Jaffer, global head, LXR Hotels & Resorts. The hotel “embodies the sophisticated and one-of-a-kind essence of our brand. From the resort’s commitment to the local community and immersive cultural offerings for guests, to the property’s prime location in one of the most sought-after locations in the world, Ka La’I Waikiki Beach represents the spirit of LXR Hotels & Resorts. We look forward to offering our guests a bespoke stay paired with exceptional service from check-in to check-out.”
