Hidden meaning behind Kate Middleton's gold brooch

When Kate Middleton arrived at an extravagant dinner at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening, most eyes were drawn to her choice of headwear, a stunning diamond and pearl tiara, which once belonged to Princess Diana.

But there was another accessory worn by the Duchess of Cambridge that held a very special meaning.

Kate wore a gorgeous gold brooch with her blue Alexander McQueen gown, and it’s in fact the metallic badge that holds more significance than one may realise.

Rather than being made of its usual ivory, Kate’s brooch was a glass one.

According to Majesty magazine, the glass paid homage to her husband Prince William’s continuous campaigning for a ban on ivory.

On Tuesday the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined the Queen and the royal family at the State Banquet for the King and Queen of the Netherlands.

As mentioned earlier her Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara, which once belonged to Princess Diana, turned heads as Kate arrived.

The diamond and pearl headpiece dates back to 1914, when Queen Mary commissioned the piece from Garrard.

It was passed down to her granddaughter, the Queen, who then gave it to Princess Diana as a wedding present in 1981.

The tiara wasn’t the only piece of jewellery of Diana’s the Duchess of Cambridge wore.

Kate teamed it with Diana’s Collingwood pearl and diamond drop earrings.
