Here's Why Millions Of People Are Having A Revelation After Chappell Roan Screamed The “F” Word At A Photographer On The VMA Red Carpet

The VMAs happened this week. So, of course, pop singer/songwriter Chappell Roan was in attendance and performed one of her hit songs, "Good Luck, Babe!"

But, before her performance, she had a somewhat heated interaction with a male photographer on the red carpet.

While she was adjusting her dress, the photographer loudly said, "I'm not gonna shut the fuck up she missed the spot!"

The photographer appeared to be upset because Chappell missed the "photography spot" which is a mark on red carpets designated for celebrities as the best place to take photos.

You can see a breakdown of the explanation in more detail here.

She immediately looked over and sternly yelled, "You shut the fuck up!"

The photographer can then be heard saying, "Your publicist..." before Chappell interrupts, saying, "No. Not me bitch."

After that, other photographers cheered her on, saying things like, "Yeahhhh!!!" and "You tell him, girl!" Here is a video of the moment for reference:

Chappell told Entertainment Tonight, "This is quite overwhelming and quite scary. I think for someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying. I yelled back. You don't yell at me."

Well now, as expected, videos of the incident have been going viral on TikTok, with over 15 million views and climbing.

People are obsessed with Chappell's demeanor when standing up for herself in the clip:

Jessica Linn commented, "The slow turn like, he better not be talking to me"

And loving her assertive body language...

Two TikTok comments. First: "that slow turn was LETHALLLLLL!" from kokolicious ✧* Second: "The way she eyed him before saying anything" from gob

Even if it gives off that "my mom is really mad at me" energy:

Sarita's comment reads: "she has the same look in her eyes that my mom has when she is yelling at me"

However, some are saying the way she handled the situation was rude. (We're just going to show one of the comments cause they're not worth highlighting, and you get the gist):

One person commented, "did she not get celebrity training"

But, even through the hate comments, a revelation is being made. She's the first mainstream pop artist that is setting clear boundaries in a direct way:

Lea comments that they admire Chappell for setting firm boundaries in the pop industry, noting people are reacting negatively, but stating it's not her problem

Historically, celebrities have been expected to maintain kindness to the paparazzi and their fans even if they're out of line. Some believe it "goes along with the territory" of being famous — like a consequence of their fame.

Opale questions why yelling and being rude would make anyone more willing to comply, suggesting such behavior should be understood as ineffective from a young age

And Chappell recently made headlines for calling out the normalization of celebrity "abuse," "harassment," and "stalking."

Comment by cantstopdeesbeets: "I don't think a lot of people realize how stressful and toxic the red carpets really are"

Commenters noted that by speaking out, she is not only standing up for herself but also for people working the event behind the scenes:

Kevin Jonas posted about the importance of standing up for oneself and others against paparazzi, noting their disrespectful behavior towards crew members

So, commenters feel that Chappell could be single-handedly shaking the industry in a way it never has been before

...And everyone is glad the moment was caught on camera so we can all learn from it:
