Here's What September's Partial Lunar Eclipse Means For Your Zodiac Sign

Lunar eclipses are 'three times more powerful and trigger destined and fated events' in comparison to regular full moons, PEOPLE's resident astrologer says

We are over the moon about this lunation!

September's full moon, nicknamed the Harvest Moon, is an exciting one because it doubles as a partial lunar eclipse that peaks on Sept. 17 at 7:44 p.m. PT.

Beginning at 6:55 p.m. that night, the eclipse is expected to last 246 minutes from start to finish with the moon in Earth's dark shadow for only 64 minutes. That's because this partial eclipse will be a penumbral eclipse of the moon, meaning only a small fraction of the moon will be in the dark.

When viewing the celestial spectacle from the ground, skygazers should be able to see a black-out shadow slowly growing around the edge of the moon on one side. Only half of the Earth, however, will be able to spot this display.

Specifically, those who are experiencing night when the moon is full. Geographically, this includes the Americas, the western Indian Ocean, parts of Antarctica, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Atlantic Ocean and parts of eastern Polynesia.

PEOPLE's resident astrologer Kyle Thomas describes lunar eclipses as "full moons on steroids" when it comes to its astrological significance because they are "three times more powerful and trigger destined and fated events."

"News that has been building since Aug. 17 and could be delivered as late as Oct. 17," Thomas adds. September's partial eclipse will be a full moon in Pisces, which he predicts may make us feel "very emotional."

Aries (March 21 to April 19)

The eclipse is shouting at you to turn within, Aries. "You may need to face your past, your baggage, your anxieties and your fears," Thomas puts forth. "Karma is coming for you."

There may even be "a big shake-up" around your mental and physical health," he continues. "If you’ve been involved in some nefarious situations, secrets or scandals may emerge out from the shadows."

Taurus (April 20 to May 20)

A major moment around your friendships and social circle could be here, Taurus. "You may attend a major event or reach a milestone hope, dream or aspiration," predicts Thomas.

"Another way this could affect you is by having a friend or acquaintance leave your circle," he says, "but you may end up meeting new people who radically shift your life path forever."

Thomas adds, "Be on the lookout for soulmates, either platonic or romantic!" They could be around the corner.

Gemini (May 21 to June 20)

Let the world hear you shout, Gemini! Thomas predicts the lunar eclipse will "ignite your career," as well as "spotlight your ambitions and public recognition."

"An award, promotion, new job offer or publicity could materialize out of thin air!" he adds. "Some of you may even be deciding to turn your professional life in a whole new direction — if so, go for it."

If a job ends near this time, Thomas suggests you "search for a new one" or find a path "that is more fulfilling."

Cancer (June 21 to July 22)

Spread your wings and soar, Cancer! "The lunar eclipse will empower you with the courage to step out of your comfort zone," says Thomas.

"You may now reach a victory around a long-distance project or travel situation — perhaps, you may even consider immigration," he adds. "Others may decide to pursue further education or hit a milestone if already enrolled."

If you’re involved with the media, publishing or international business, Thomas predicts "big news" is near.

Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)

An extremely intense moment around partnerships is arriving, Leo. "You will now focus on how you share, give and receive," says Thomas.

If you’re in a healthy rapport, he says "you may now decide to crank up the intimacy." However, if you’re on a rocky road, he says "the path to a settlement may push you in opposite directions."

Elsewhere in his prediction, Thomas says "you could hear news of a large settlement, payout, scholarship or inheritance near this time too — or a shift around your assets, stocks and investments."

Virgo (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)

Get ready for an intense and pivotal moment in your life around partnerships, Virgo. Depending on where you stand, Thomas predicts "you may now be making major decisions to grow to the next level together."

Professionally, if you’re looking for the right business partner — such as an agent, assistant, attorney or accountant — the two of you "may align," he says. If you’re not on the same playing field, however, this lunar eclipse "could bring an intense and dramatic separation or divorce."

If single, Thomas says to "be on the lookout for a soulmate connection who has long-term potential!"

Libra (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)

Get ready for a whirlwind of activity around your daily routine, Libra. "This lunar eclipse will bring a major ending or turning point to your employment and responsibilities," predicts Thomas.

If a job is ending — or you choose to leave — be on the hunt for something that is more aligned with your skills and schedule. "You may hit a prized professional milestone if you’ve been working hard on something," he puts forth.

Elsewhere in his prediction, Thomas says this lunar eclipse "could bring a change around your physical health, fitness, diet and exercise."

Scorpio (Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)

A light will shine around matters close to the heart, Scorpio! The lunar eclipse is bringing a surge of energy to your passion sector, which Thomas says could "trigger a significant turning point around romance, hobbies, fertility, true love or creativity."

If single, he says "you could cross paths with a soulmate connection" — therefore, don’t miss the opportunity to put yourself out there! If in a committed relationship, he says you can use this energy
"to reignite your spark together."

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)

Buckle up for an emotional moment,  Sagittarius! This lunar eclipse "could bring a big shift to your domestic life, home and family," Thomas puts forth.

"A powerful ending may now be at hand, such as moving, renovating or deciding to entirely redecorate," he says. If involved in real estate or seeking to be, he predicts "news may pop up that you have to tackle."

There's potential this lunation could have an effect on your family, too. "You may now be required to step in to help one of your kindred," says Thomas. "Do it with grace, if so."

Capricorn (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)

It’s time to open up your mind and perspective, Capricorn! Thomas says the lunar eclipse "will empower your zone of communications, intellect and ideas."

"Some of you may now release a significant writing, speaking or advertising initiative before the world as many people will engage with your ideas," he explains. "Educational matters are also favored at this time."

Thomas says this lunar eclipse may also "inspire you to travel, visit nearby destinations or head off on a road trip." Whatever it may be, have fun!

Aquarius (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)

A major shift around your financial life has come, Aquarius. Thomas predicts this lunar eclipse "will shake up your income and wealth."

"Some will see a financial stream end, while a new one appears," he says. "More money may arrive in the form of a raise, side hustle or new job offer."

Thomas adds, "You may also make a hefty payment near this time, too — so watch your expenses!"

Pisces (Feb. 19 to March 20)

Rise up, Pisces! Thomas says "one of the most important periods of your entire life" is upon you! As the lunar eclipse electrifies your zodiac sign, he says "a profound, destined event will rise up for you to face."

Major endings, breakthroughs or breakdowns could occur. Thomas suggests using this period to "release the past" and "anything that isn’t serving you or making you happy," especially in regard to relationships.

He adds, "You will suddenly watch as a previous chapter of your life fades away right before your eyes as you step forward into a whole new era." Get excited and be bold and brave!
