Sarah Ferguson – who was dubbed ‘Fergie’ by the press years ago – is certainly one of a kind.
From affair scandals, to getting caught trying to sell him out for $900k (£500k), she’s certainly grabbed herself quite a few headlines over the years.
In the run up to her youngest daughter’s wedding, we’ve decided to take a deep dive into Fergie’s life.
So, here’s everything you need to know about Sarah Ferguson.
She was born on 15 October 1959 and is the second daughter of Major Ronald Ferguson and Susan, Mrs Hector Barrantes.
Fergie is the former wife of the Queen’s third child Prince Andrew, Duke of York and is the mother of Princess Beatrice, 30, and Princess Eugenie, 28.
The couple have known each other since childhood, but became re-acquainted at Royal Ascot in 1985. The following year, they announced their engagement.
Andrew and Sarah were wed at at Westminster Abbey on 23 July 1986 and the bride wore an ivory duchesse satin and beaded wedding dress by British couturier Lindka Cierach and the York Diamond Tiara.
They announced their separation in 1992, but didn’t actually finalise their divorce until 1996. Despite a couple of scandals on Fergie’s part, they remain good friends until this day.
Where was Sarah educated?
Sarah attended Daneshill School in Hampshire, before going to Hurst Lodge School, in Ascot.
After leaving school, she took a course at the Queen’s Secretarial College in Kensington and went on to work for a public relations firm, an art gallery and a publishing company.
Where does Sarah work?
Sarah is a British writer, charity patron, public speaker, film producer, and television personality. She is the author of children’s books (including Budgie The Little Helicopter) as well as works on Queen Victoria and autobiographies.
She also had an eleven-year endorsement with Weight Watchers.
Although she is no longer a member of the royal family, Sarah’s patronages include Teenage Cancer Trust, Children in Crisis and Street Child.
