There are a lot of factors that go into your overall health, including what you eat, how active you are, and, of course, your genetics. But your environment plays a role, too, including where you live.

According to a new analysis, people living in one state are healthier, on average, than the rest of us. So, which state is the healthiest? Here’s the deal.

What is the healthiest U.S. state?

The analysis, which was conducted by Bader Scott injury lawyers, looked at data across a range of factors, including the percentage of adults in the state who are physically active, dietary patterns, teen obesity rates, and air quality.

Each state received a score out of 100. The healthiest state, based on this, is Hawaii, which scored a 71.6.

What makes Hawaii so healthy?

According to the analysis, nearly 60 percent of adults in the state are active for more than 150 minutes a week. Adults need at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week, according to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.

The analysis also found that most Hawaiians were exposed to clean air, ate plenty of fruits and vegetables, and were less likely to smoke than residents in other states.

Which other states are healthy?

There are a few other states worth noting for their healthiness:

2. Washington

3. Utah

4. Alaska

5. California

6. Colorado

7. Idaho

8. Massachusetts

9. Oregon

10. Virginia

Of course, it's important to point out that health is individual. While you can't control your genetics, you can do your best to eat a healthy and varied diet, be physically active for 150 minutes or more a week, and avoid smoking.

But if you happen to live in Hawaii or one of the other leading healthy states, you can pat yourself on the back, too.
