A Guide to Art Basel Miami 2024: The Fashion Pop-ups, Installations and More
Miami Art Week kicks off on Monday. While the fairs — Art Basel Miami Beach, Design Miami, SCOPE, and Untitled among them — open to the public later in the week, the installations, activations, public art and parties are already popping up around the city. Here’s a look at what’s happening from the Design District to street art-focused Wynwood and, of course, back on Miami Beach.
Design District
Cartier is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its Trinity collection with an immersive pop-up in Miami’s Design District. The Trinity 100 exhibition will run Dec. 4 through Dec. 8, showcasing the collection’s history through several experiential rooms. On Dec. 1, Cartier will also launch an exclusive collection, which will be on view as part of the pop-up. The public can reserve a time slot to visit the exhibition online.

Maison Margiela is launching an exclusive Miami Art Week capsule collection with artist Kozo, which will be celebrated during an invite-only cocktail party on Dec. 4. That same evening, Fendi will celebrate the opening of its new Design District boutique. On Dec. 5, the Miu Miu boutique will present a curated selection of products chosen by Gigi Hadid, and Off-White will celebrate the launch of the Off-White™ c/o Paris Hilinksi Golf Capsule, “All In One,” at its Miami boutique.
Gucci is unveiling a public snow globe installation at the Sweet Bird North Plaza, on view Nov. 29 through Jan. 7. The brand has also partnered with artist Corydon Cowansage, who created three murals to accompany the installation, which pays homage to the brand’s travel heritage.
Other new public art additions to the Design District this season include a permnant mural by Alteronce Gumby, which incorporates materials like gemstones and mosiac tiles, “Musa Coccinea” mural by Bony Ramirez in the district’s Palm Court, and jewelry-themed sculptures by 2024 Annual Design Commission recipient Nicole Nomsa Moyo, inspired by South Africa’s Ndebele tribe.
LVMH Culture House is returning to the Design District for a 5-day pop-up residence. Public events throughout the week include an art gallery, panel discussions with leaders from LVMH brands like Repossi and Maison Francis Kurkdijan, and an appearance from rapper Slick Rick in celebration of the 25th anniversary of his album “The Art of Storytelling.”
On Dec. 2, the Istituto Marangoni Miami and designer Sara Battaglia will present their collaborative “Red Collar” collection. The collection includes versions of Battaglia’s “Red Collar” shirt, an initiative created to raise awareness for gender violence, remimagined by IMM students and VIPs including Lola Schnabel and Rossy de Palma. The shirts will be auctioned off to support Miami Fashion Foundation’s scholarship program for IMM.
Producer Timbaland and artist Derek Fordjour will celebrate the launch of Beatmaker, a limited-edition vinyl record with music curated by Timbaland and sleeve art by Fordjour. And on Dec. 5, Hublot will celebrate the launch of SR_A Hublot 3.0, its third timepiece with British artist Dr. Samuel Ross MBE, during an invite-only event.
Wynwood & Nearby
At the nearby Wynwood Walls, new murals and sculptures will be unveiled by international artists including Simon Berger from Switzerland, Carlos Mare from New York, and U.K.-based Sophie Mess. The street art hub will kick off its 15th anniversary on Dec. 2 with an invite-only outdoor party featuring performances by Fatboy Slim and Greg Mike x Larry Loud.
Chance the Rapper is bringing his “Writings on the Wall” listening experience to Wynwood Dec. 3 through Dec. 6. The ticketed “phone-free” event will include a Q&A discussion at the end of each session.
Lexus is parking at ICA Miami’s sculpture garden starting Dec. 4 for “Liminal Cycles,” a multisensory four-part installation in collaboration with studio Crafting Plastics. To accompany the exhibition’s launch, Lexus is sponsoring a series of talks in collaboration with Whitewall.
On Dec. 5, Ikea will present its “Ikea Sleepeasy” installation in Miami. The immersive event, which takes place at a venue in Wynwood, includes interactive displays and new releases from the brand.
The Museum of Graffiti will host the public opening for “Departure: 40 Years of Art and Design” on Dec. 4. Presented by Spotify, the exhibition is a career retrospective for founding Def Jam creative director Cey Adams, and includes an installation of Cey’s album cover designs for artists like LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, and Jay-Z.
Miami Beach
On Dec. 3, Pucci will host a private VIP event at the Botanical Garden Miami Beach. A “fun fair” featuring interactive games and playful activities will kick off the event, which will continue into a party animated by Disco Bambino. The brand activation will be felt from the Miami Beach Convention Center — the main venue for the art fair, just opposite the Botanical Garden — to the city’s streets and sidewalks, all of which will be “Puccified.” Throughout the duration of the art fair, Pucci also will be serving up gelato in a lounge area appointed with beanbag chairs in groovy patterns, and collectors will be furnished with Pucci tote bags in partnership with Art Basel Miami Beach.
Balmain is also heading to Miami Beach this week with the Balmain Lounge at Mila MM’s Private Members Club. Starting Dec. 3, the Meridian Avenue rooftop lounge will feature a curation of work by L.A.-based artist Jenny Chandler. The artwork will be on view, and available for purchase, through the end of December.
The first Rabanne Arts Factory winner, powered by Dazed, is animator Lucy Ellis. The artist’s work will be showcased at the Art Basel Miami Beach convention center Dec. 6 through Dec. 8, and Ellis will also be on hand for a live component, during which she will edit her animated works in real time.
Activist artist collective For Freedoms is heading to Miami Art Week for a one-day activation on Dec. 6. Billboard artists will be onsite at the Art Basel Miami Beach shop for a book signing of the new monograph “For Freedoms: Where Do We Go From Here?” followed by a public conversation about public art with Dr. Deborah Willis. The Body Freedoms for Every(Body) box truck, a traveling exhibition, will be parked around Miami from Dec. 3 through Dec. 6.
Spanish retailer Massimo Dutti is collaborating with artist Marina Abramović for an exhibition on view at the Faena Art Project Room starting Dec. 5. The exhibition, “Nomadic Journey,” will highlight the past four decades of the artist’s creative process. Faena Art’s other art initiatives this Art Week include the unveiling of Nicholas Galanin‘s site-specific galleon sailing ship installation “Seletega (run, see if people are coming/corre a ver si viene gente)” on Faena Beach. Lyra Drake will make her public art debut in the Faena Hotel Cathedral with AI-centered piece “Infinite Faith in a Finite World,” and Miami-based artist Magnus Sodamin will unveil his commission for the 2024 edition of No Vacancy in collaboration with the City of Miami Beach.
New York residents might spot a familiar sight on the beach this year. After its Meatpacking District residence, 100-piece sculpture installation “The Great Elephant Migration” is landing on Miami Beach. The traveling outdoor exhibition will also include the launch of an “elephant-inspired” perfume by Italian fragrance brand Xerjoff.
Carlos Betancourt will unveil his public sculpture “Miami Reef Star,” a collaboration between the ReefLine and Art&Newport on South Beach. The sculpture will be on view Dec. 3 through Dec. 8. The sculpture is part of The ReefLine, an underwater public sculpture park that will open next spring.
Daniel Buren’s “Voile/Toile — Toile/Voile” regatta, which features striped sails created by the artist, will take place Dec. 2, in collaboration with the Miami Yacht Club. The sails will later be installed at PAMM.
The Tribeca Festival is returning to Art Basel for a third year. Taking place Dec. 4 through Dec. 7 at the Miami Beach Bandshell, the public lineup includes a conversation with Camila Cabello, screening of “The Birdcage” and drag show, and performances by Natasha Diggs, Magalena Bay and more.
Miami-born artist Jen Stark has created a site-specific installation for Española Way as part of the City of Miami Beach’s Elevate Española public art initiative. “Sundial Spectrum” features large-scale murals and colorful hanging vinyl panels that will cast shadows that shift throughout the day as light filters through.
Artist Hassan Hajjaj is linking up with Capital One and art membership club The Cultivist on a pop-up dinner experience, “DAR MIAMI 1446,” inspired by Moroccan culture. The dinner will kick off with an invite-only preview on Dec. 3 before opening to a wider audience on Dec. 4 and Dec. 5. The collaboration includes an afternoon tea salon menu, open to the public, and dinner experience curated by restauranteur Rose Previte followed by live performances by Anderson .Paak and Kaytranada.
Popular Paris and New York-based club Silencio is taking over the basement at the Miami Beach Edition hotel. The three-day takeover will take place Dec. 3 through Dec. 5.
Further up the road, the Eden Roc Miami Beach has unveiled a suspended installation by artist Beatriz Chachamovits above the hotel’s main pool deck. “Heliotropic Seekers” features colorful fish and coral plexiglass shapes, a commentary on the fragility of Florida’s marine ecosystems.
Shoe brand Autry has collaborated with artist Rob Pruitt on a limited-edition sneaker and the Autry Art Station, a non-functional chrome gas station installation located a few blocks from the Miami Convention Center at 331 23rd Street. While you’re en route, stop by The Bass museum to check out “Rachel Feinstein: The Miami Years,” the New York-based artist’s first exhibition in her hometown.
