A bridesmaid shared a wedding gift gone wrong that went down at her best friend’s wedding, which involved the groom’s sister and a karaoke machine.

The Redditor shared in a post on Reddit’s “wedding shaming” forum that one of her best friends got married “fresh out of college” in an “intimate wedding” ceremony that quickly turned awkward when the groom’s sister burst out into song during the speeches at the reception.

The woman prefaced this noting that the groom’s sister had brought the idea up during one of the bridesmaids’ planning sessions for the nuptials at her house. She told her that she wanted to show her the “wedding gift she got them” and brought back a karaoke machine.

“I assumed that was the gift because I knew the couple both liked to karaoke. But then she hit play and started singing at me,” the bridesmaid recalled, adding that she was “stunned” at what was happening.

She then told her that she was planning “to sing” to the couple at the wedding “during the speeches” as her gift. However, the woman noted that “she wasn’t a good singer,” wasn’t asked to “give a speech” and she knew her friend “would simply hate it,” so she advised her to leave it out of the wedding.

“She seemed disappointed but she agreed and I thought that was the end of that crazy/horrible idea,” she wrote.

However, it appeared that the groom’s sister ultimately failed to heed her advice and during the wedding reception right after the speeches, she told the guests that she had “something to say.” She then pulled out her karaoke machine from under the table and “went on to sing a six minute song.”

“The whole time she kept staring the bride and groom aggressively in the eyes and she sounded even worse than she did at her house,” the bridesmaid recalled. “It was the cringiest thing I’ve ever witnessed at a wedding or anywhere else for that matter.”

“When she was finally finished the whole room was silent,” she continued. “People clapped really awkwardly, but you could tell no one liked it or knew what to say.”

She said that the sister ended “up bursting into tears” and running “out of the room,” and the rest of the wedding party didn’t “see her for the rest of the night.” The woman said she found out later that the groom’s sister was “upset with every single person” in the room “because nobody appreciated her gift” and “ it was the best gift the couple had/would ever receive” in her opinion.

“My friend told me she would have been mad but the whole awkwardness of it all just makes her laugh every time she thinks about it,” the woman shared. “And her sister in law (who she has never liked) was finally put in her place.”
