“Grey's Anatomy”'s Camilla Luddington Teases Jo Be Will Be Stuck in 'Her Own Tornado of Emotions and Hormones' (Exclusive)
Luddington tells PEOPLE things get "a little more challenging" after Jo and Link's conversation about her pregnancy
This post contains spoilers from the Thursday, Sept. 26 episode of Grey's Anatomy.
Camilla Luddington is teasing that it won’t be smooth sailing for Jo and Link after he discovered her pregnancy in the season 21 premiere of Grey's Anatomy.
On the Sept. 26 episode of the hit ABC medical drama, Jo admitted that she panicked about telling her boyfriend Link (Chris Carmack) that she was pregnant while her pal Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) nearly spilled the beans twice during the episode.
However, Link soon realized that she was, in fact, pregnant after she turned down fries and wine. Of course, he was over the moon about the news and the pair shared an emotional hug.
Now, Luddington, 40, tells PEOPLE that things get “a little more challenging” for the pair as “more news gets revealed” around the pregnancy.
She notes that viewers should be prepared for nothing about the pregnancy “to be wrapped up in a nice, cute bow anytime soon.”
In addition to the baby news, the hospital is also dealing with the fallout of Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) resignation and the firing of Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) after Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) discovered the secret Alzheimer's research at the end of season 20.
However, Luddington notes that the storyline “ends up being sort of a separate storm” from Jo on season 21 of Grey’s Anatomy.
“I think that she's caught up in her own tornado of emotions and hormones and relationship things and navigating family and extended family,” she shares. “I think that that is really where she lies in that situation. But you definitely see these things really affect other characters on the show.”
Luddington — who hosts the advice podcast Call It What It Is with her former costar Jessica Capshaw — also shared what words of wisdom she would give her character as she continues to navigate her pregnancy throughout the season.
“I think that she needs to be kinder to herself as a mom,” she shares. “And I do really believe in the village that everybody needs. And I don't think I realized what that meant until I had children. I think that she needs more help.”
“And so I would advise her to reach out for more help whether it means someone helping do the... Whatever that means for her in her day-to-day life to just help her feel more present and less stressed, I think do it,” she adds.
