Grammys remove J-Kwon as songwriter for Shaboozey's 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)'

The Recording Academy has withdrawn J-Kwon’s Grammy eligibility for Shaboozey's country hit "A Bar Song (Tipsy)."

The 2025 Song of the Year nominee, which includes an interpolation to J-Kwon's 2004 hip-hop track "Tipsy," initially credited the "Hood Hop" rapper as well as writers Joe Kent and Mark Williams.

However, an update posted Thursday revealed Kent, Williams and J-Kwon, whose real name is Jerrell C. Jones, will no longer be considered songwriters for the Shaboozey song.

The writers of the J-Kwon anthem will now only eligible for a certificate if the song wins at the Feb. 1 awards ceremony, per the Academy's rules regarding sampled or interpolated material.

'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' tops Billboard for 19 weeks

"Tipsy" peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in April 2004 and now lives on through "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," which stayed at No. 1 for over four months.

It joined Lil Nas X's 2018 hit "Old Town Road" as the only songs to top the Billboard's Hot 100 chart for 19 weeks.
