When Does The Golden Bachelorette Start?
The Golden Bachelorette premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 8/7c on ABC.
Who Is The Golden Bachelorette?
Disney announced in May that Joan Vassos — a 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator from Rockville, Md. — would be the first-ever Golden Bachelorette. Bachelor Nation members will remember that Joan was one of the contestants vying for the heart of 71-year-old widow Gerry Turner last fall on the first season of The Golden Bachelor. She quickly emerged as a frontrunner, with her and Gerry bonding over the losses of their longtime spouses, but she abruptly left the show midway through the season to be by her daughter’s side through a medical issue. Her exit left Gerry in tears, and fans hoped this wasn’t the last we’d see of Joan.
Shortly after Disney shared the news of Joan’s casting, soap star Susan Lucci claimed she had been offered The Golden Bachelorette title, but turned it down. “I believe that they contacted my publicist,” she told People magazine, but she decided “it wasn’t for me. But I do love watching.” (ABC told People that Lucci was not offered the role, for the record.)
Cast of The Golden Bachelorette
There will be 24 men vying for Joan’s heart during Season 1 of The Golden Bachelorette. Among them: Bill, a 68-year-old retired videographer; David, a 68-year-old rancher; Gregg, a 64-year-old retired university vice president; and Keith, a 62-year-old “girl-dad.” Get to know the full cast in our gallery below!
