Filmmaker Scott, 86, recently told The Hollywood Reporter and the French outlet Premiere that he already intends to make a third Gladiator movie after the new sequel hits theaters in November. "There’s already an idea," he told THR, saying his idea for a third story in the series takes inspiration from Francis Ford Coppola's 1974 epic The Godfather Part II.
Connie Nielsen, who reprises her role as Lucius' mother Lucilla, also costars in the upcoming action epic, which comes 24 years after Russell Crowe led the series' original entry. The original Gladiator won five Academy Awards at the 73rd Oscars in 2001 and received 12 total nominations at that year's ceremony.
