'Gilmore Girls' Fans, Luke and Lorelai Just Gave Us the Reunion We Needed
In magical news that only Gilmore Girls could deliver, our favorite TV couple just reunited in the place where it all began. Winning 2024 with their nostalgic TV ad for Walmart, Lauren Graham, and Scott Patterson are bringing all the holiday joy to fans of the feel-good show.
For the duration of a glorious 30-second clip that we'll be watching on repeat until the next revival (more on that ahead), Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore are back in Stars Hollow. The pair exchange quips — and gifts — over the counter at Luke's Diner like no time has passed. Highlights include Luke in his signature flannel and backwards cap, Lorelai saying "coffee, coffee, coffee" and a cameo from Kirk Gleason (Sean Gunn). There are also plenty of recognizable town square landmarks packed in, like the iconic gazebo, the Stars Hollow sign and the Stars Hollow Gazette newspaper box.
Good Housekeeping had the opportunity to chat with Lauren and Scott about their reunion, and we asked all the burning questions. Keep reading for the duo's take on how Luke and Lorelai are faring today, whether they're giving Rory parenting advice and, yes, the potential for another Gilmore Girls revival following A Year in the Life.
When asked about the latter, Lauren's response gave us more life than coffee in an IV ever could. "People always say it like we're like 'no, no, it would take a lot [to do a revival],'" she laughed. "And it wouldn't really take that much is the answer."
"But I think the thing we've seen and have immense respect for, and we've talked about this the last time we reunited, is what's best for the show and what's truly best for the fans and what's doable and at what point are people like, 'enough already stop.' So I don't know, and thank goodness it's not up to us. It is the writers and creators and studio. But it's an honor to be asked that question. It's fun to think about, for sure."
And if there was a revival, where would Luke and Lorelai be today? "Together," Scott confirms. "And getting a little older and slowing down a little bit." (Lauren chimes in here that "no, they're not!") "He's still running the diner and the Dragonfly [Inn] is thriving, and they're living their lives in their beautiful little town," Scott continues.
"The best answer probably, if you love the show, is they're exactly the same. There's not really any surprises," Lauren agrees.
One surprise that fans did get from the series was when Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) revealed she's pregnant at the end of A Year in the Life. So, what advice is Lorelai giving to Rory now that she's a parent? "Did I ever give Rory advice as a parent? I'm not sure," Lauren jokes.
In real life, she says, "I am an auntie to a couple of little girls, but I'm the aunt that the parents don't want. I always have presents in my pocket. The answer to more chocolate is always yes. I'm fun, and I feel like that's how Lorelai and Luke would be, spoiling the kid (if there's just one, I don't know!) and just starting over again with the campaign of good times."
Now, if you'll excuse us, we're suddenly in the mood to re-watch Gilmore Girls for the umpteenth time.
