'Ghostbusters' Actor Rick Moranis Spotted in Rare Outing in NYC

Rick Moranis was seen enjoying a low-key public outing earlier this week.

Paparazzi photographed the Ghostbusters star while he was walking down the street in New York City on Thursday, March 7, just over a month before he'll be ringing in his 71st birthday.

In photos obtained by the Daily Mail, Moranis was spotted sporting a casual look with a blue jacket, tan pants, sneakers and a multi-colored beanie. He also appeared to have an umbrella in one hand in preparation for the day's rainy weather.

Thursday's sighting is quite a rarity for the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids star, who has been out of the spotlight for over two decades now.

He retreated even more from public life after being involved in an unprovoked attack in October 2020, when he was sucker-punched in the head during a walk near his apartment in New York City. (A month later, a suspect was apprehended and charged by the NYPD.)

Moranis hasn't appeared in a live-action film in over 25 years since retiring from Hollywood in 1997, a decision he made to raise his two children, Rachel and Mitchell, following the death of his wife. Ann Moranis (née Belsky), a makeup artist and costume designer in Hollywood, died of breast cancer in 1991 at the young age of 35.

But Moranis is rumored to be making a comeback in Shrunk, a new Disney film with Josh Gad that is meant to be another sequel to the popular 1989 film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

Moranis signed on for the project in 2020 to reprise his role as Wayne Szalinski, before it was ultimately shut down due to COVID-19 delays, and things have been up in the air ever since.

In 2023, Gad posted on X (formerly Twitter) to share an update on production, explaining the list of delays that have plagued the new film. But he still left fans with a little bit of hope, teasing, "If you want it, let your local @disney know."
