Getting Ready for ‘Suffs’ Opening Night on Broadway With Hannah Cruz
There is no better time to head to Broadway than now, as the spring 2024 season is overrun with new shows to see. One of the buzziest is “Suffs,” which makes a Broadway transfer after a sold out run at The Public Theater. The show tells the story of the Suffragists, with music, lyrics and story written by Shaina Taub, with Hillary Clinton and Malala as producers.
Making her Broadway debut in “Suffs” is Hannah Cruz. She previously acted off-Broadway at the MCC Theater in “The Connector,” and played Eliza in the first national tour of Hamilton.

For the show’s opening night on Thursday, Cruz worked with stylist Gregory Dassonville, makeup artist Kelli Bartlett and hairstylist Megan Motter.
Cruz listened to Beyoncé and Doja Cat while in the glam chair, and was “completely gagged” by the extensions Motter gave her for the night.
“As the day went on, more and more opening night gifts started coming in,” she said of the big day. A highlight was an “Inez Milholland prayer candle” someone sent.
Dassonville and Cruz selected a gown by Nardos, jewels by Stephanie Gottlieb, shoes by SJP Collection and a clutch from Nina for the look. The stylist assisted Cruz in navigating the theater in a long gown, “making sure my train doesn’t drag while running from place to place.”
Cruz made sure to take “deep breaths before heading out for portraits” while still in her dressing room, and got to have a moment onstage at the Music Box Theater “before all the opening night chaos.”
