The beloved, Tony-award-winning Creel, died at his home on Monday, September 30. He was 48 years old and had been battling an aggressive cancer. A tireless advocate for the Broadway community, LGBTQ+ rights and marriage equality, Creel left a void in the community with his passing. The depth of feeling for the actor by his peers and fans became immediately evident when the League’s initial announcement that only some venues would dim their lights was met with massive backlash from the community.
Creel’s stage credits included, among many others, Hair, Into The Woods, The Book of Mormon and Hello, Dolly!, for which he won a 2017 Tony Award.
