Which “Friends” Character You Are, Based on Your Zodiac Sign
As the iconic series turns 30, see which character most aligns with your zodiac sign
Friends is celebrating its 30th anniversary!
It’s hard to imagine what pop culture would be without Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Joey, Ross and Central Perk. The iconic TV show continues to bring us laughs and has helped us define and understand the importance of friendship.
The series is currently on the heels of its first Saturn Return, a celestial event that occurs 27-30 years after the planet Saturn goes back to the place, sign and degree it was at during the time of birth.
We all relate to one member of the group or more, so looking at the zodiac sign that each character embodies can bring us closer to their personality.
Look to the cosmos to find out which character of Friends aligns with the stars.
Aries: Chandler Bing
Aries likes to be triumphant in their careers. Chandler seems to have professional luck and a lush bank account to constantly lend his roommate/BFF Joey money. Being the only member of the gang to hold a corporate job adds drive to Chandler’s vibe — even if no one really knows the details about his career as a data analyst turned copywriter. And can his sarcastic demeanor be any more Aries? Obvs! His birthday is April 8.
Taurus: Rachel Green
Rachel’s May 5 birth date divulges her Taurus Sun sign to the public, which is spot on. She treasures luxury items, mainly clothes (she works for the department store Bloomingdale’s and designer Ralph Lauren after her stint waiting tables at the local coffee shop Central Perk). Taurus’s planetary ruler is Venus, defining Rachel’s indulgent and decadent desires. At times, she can be self-centered, which is one of the negative attributes of the Earth sign.
Gemini: Mr. Treeger
The Mercurial super of Monica, Rachel, Chandler and Joey’s apartment building is always in the know about every tenant. Some might label him a busybody, but we call him a Gemini. Like the mutable and dualistic twin star, Mr. Treeger has a softer side to his gruff persona, which is revealed when Joey teaches him how to dance for “The Super Ball” as a form of payback and negotiation not to evict Monica and Rachel.
Cancer: Mr. Heckles
The moody downstairs neighbor of Monica and Rachel often complains about the “noise” in their apartment by banging a broom at his ceiling/their floor — even though there is rarely a problem. Mr. Heckles is a temperamental homebody who connects to the Water sign Cancer’s personality. These lunar babes change their attitude daily, collect meaningful items (Mr. Heckles is a hoarder) and protect their dwellings at any cost. Sound familiar?
Leo: Mike Hannigan
The couple who musically jam together stays together. Mike is a romantic at heart, as shown through his relationship with Phoebe. The charismatic musician shows his creativity, devotion and pettiness at times towards Phoebe’s besties. Overall, Mike cares for his partner, Phoebe, which is shown through his vows. All of these attributes are very Leo, especially the stubbornness he portrays at times (for example: insisting his dog is a groomsman at their wedding).
Virgo: Monica Geller
Even though Monica’s birthday is in March, which would make her a Pisces or Aries, her character resonates the most with Virgo. The Earth sign appreciates order — a sentiment Monica can get behind since she is a clean freak and finds solace in her superior organizational skills. After work, Monica prefers to decompress by taking long baths and sipping a glass of wine (which Virgos often do to decompress) before dealing with her squad's hijinks.
Libra: Ross Geller
Ross is indecisive about love, always searching for someone to partner with, even though his heart belongs to Rachel. Ross even hooks up with Chloe, the girl from the Xerox shop, when Rachel and him are on a few-hour break. His inability to be alone without a S.O. models him as a tried-and-true Libra since they’re always in relationships. Plus, his birthday is Oct. 18, making him fall in the backend of Libra season.
Scorpio: Gunther
Gunther lusts after Rachel for the duration of the whole series, daydreaming about having the chance to date her. Admiring someone from afar for 10-plus years might be intense for anyone — unless they're a Scorpio. The Water sign latches onto those they have feelings for and never lets go. In this case, it happens to be Rachel. Beyond his obsession with Rachel, little is known about Gunther, making him enigmatic and mysterious like the scorpion.
Sagittarius: Janice Litman-Goralnik
Oh. My. Gawd. Janice is such a Sagittarius! And the birthdate the writers of Friends gave her confirms it since she was born on Dec. 12. As the loud, on-and-off-again partner to Chandler and short-term fling of Ross, she embraces top Sagittarius form by never being afraid to speak her mind and lead with her heart. Janice is open to everything life has to offer (both good and bad), activating her adventurous Sagittarius spirit.
Capricorn: Joey Tribbiani
How you doin’, Cap? Joey is always trying to make his dream of acting a reality. The lesser-seen side of sea goats is their dreamy, sensitive and reflective nature, which Joey exudes throughout the series. Since his birthday is Jan. 9, Joey has a work-hard, play-hard attitude in his dating life, compassion in being a chick and duck dad, a love of food and dramatic chops on the fictitious set of Days of Our Lives.
Aquarius: Phoebe Buffay
As the quirky squad member, Phoebe is her person and doesn't back down from her beliefs — even if they deviate from the norm. Phoebe’s defiant, radical, and unique perspective on life aligns her with the novel air sign Aquarius (her birthday is Feb. 16). Also, Phoebe is a ride-or-die for her besties and always has their back. In proper Aquarian form, she values the group and wants her friends to succeed, which they reciprocate.
Pisces: Richard Burke
The tenderhearted ophthalmologist, one of Monica’s steady love interests in the show (before she dates and marries Chandler), is empathetic and compassionate to everyone he encounters, making him a top contender for being a Pisces. Through Richard’s acts of service and coolness, Joey and Chandler try to copy his look by growing a mustache. This act often happens to the elusive planet Neptune (the luminous body that rules Pisces) because people quickly become enamored with them.
