French Open’s Most Memorable Tennis Outfits and Kits: Serena Williams’ Fierce Nike Catsuit, Maria Sharapova’s Playful Peach Look and More
The French Open, also known as Roland-Garros, is the site where tennis legends are molded, and major fashion statements are made. Steffi Graf
German tennis player Steffi Graf won the French Open six times before she retired. During the 1989 tournament, Graf wore this Adidas look featuring a white polo shirt and skirt with an ’80s eccentric pattern on the top of the polo and near the hem of the skirt.
Maria Sharapova
Throughout her professional career, tennis player and Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova was known for her feminine sartorial statements. At the 2006 French Open, the athlete fashioned this peach Nike tennis dress with a flowing, semi-sheer and pleated skirt.
Venus Williams
For the 2010 French Open, seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus Williams wore a design from her own fashion label, Eleven. The tennis pro wore a look with lingerie inspiration, including a black lace dress with floral detail and a flirty hemline and exposed red boning on the bodice of the dress.
Garbiñe Muguruza
Garbiñe Muguruza brought ferocity to the tennis court in her Adidas kit at the French Open in 2014. This look featured orange and purple color blocking with sheer elements on the back of Muguruza’s top.
Serena Williams
23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams made waves when she wore this Nike catsuit to the French Open in 2018. The look featured all-black fabric with a red waist band. Additionally, the catsuit featured compression elements to help Williams’ body readjust to tennis matches less than one year after her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., was born in September 2017.
