Fox News Host Gives Co-Workers A Pointed Reminder During Segment On 'Trump Dance' Trend
Fox News host Jessica Tarlov on Monday pointed out a touch of hypocrisy at the conservative network after her colleagues spoke positively of athletes who have paid tribute to Donald Trump.
The segment on “The Five” focused on the growing number of sports figures who have imitated the Republican’s dance moves since he won the presidential election. Co-host Dana Perino suggested it was emblematic of people feeling as though they’re “not crazy for feeling this way” about Trump. Greg Gutfeld called the celebrations “joyous, free and happy.”
But Tarlov looked back to 2018, when another Fox News host, Laura Ingraham, told NBA legend LeBron James he should “shut up and dribble” and “keep the political commentary to yourselves” after he criticized Trump.
“It’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball,” Ingraham said at the time.
“So I guess we’ve gotten to the portion of the Trump era where we have moved past ‘shut up and dribble,’ and now it is fantastic for athletes to be talking about their politics or expressing their politics,” Tarlov said. “Because that was one of the critical points when Colin Kaepernick was kneeling, when LeBron James was speaking out.”
After Kaepernick, a former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, started kneeling during the national anthem at the start of games in 2016 to protest racial injustice, many folks at Fox News were highlycriticalof his activism.
Fox News personalities have also often taken issue with liberal athletes, such as soccer star Megan Rapinoe, being outspoken about their political views.
“Can’t we watch a sporting event and not have politics put in your face?” Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade griped in 2019 after Rapinoe said she wouldn’t go to Trump’s White House.
