Fox Host Cracks Up at Clip Showing Republicans’ Terrible Dancing Skills

A Fox News host and contributor on Tuesday both laughed at a group of Iowa Republicans attempting to dance to—or at least clap on beat with—one of Donald Trump’s favorite songs.

The poor showing, set to the tune of “Y.M.C.A.,” even spurred one of the conservative network’s personalities to quip that Trump needs to add to his administration a “rhythm counselor for white America.”

In a segment on The Story With Martha MacCallum about excitement building among Republicans for Trump’s inauguration next week, MacCallum introduced a video clip that the Iowa GOP posted Monday on Facebook. In it, members generally have a difficult time clapping with the song’s tempo, while some imitate Trump’s rigid arm movements.

After about half a minute, MacCallum jumped back in.

“All right, never mind,” she reacted. “We thought we were going to—anyway, I feel like this song, I’m reliving my childhood. The song swept the nation,” she said.

The 1978 Village People single has been a staple at Trump’s rallies for the past five years. In 2020, the Library of Congress deemed it significant enough for preservation in the National Recording Registry.

Iowa Republicans' accompanying dance, though, should probably not be preserved anywhere, according to MacCallum’s guest, network contributor Tyrus.

“I think we’re also looking at a bigger problem, which is that one of the things that maybe President Trump needs to think about is maybe a rhythm counselor for white America, because that was brutal,” he said, eliciting a laugh from MacCallum, who called it “the longest 20 seconds in television.”

Tyrus, grimacing, continued: “Everyone was clapping on one and three. Wow. We are going to fix that. We are coming together. We are going to fix that.”

The two then brainstormed how to do so, with MacCallum suggesting a cabinet member take on the responsibility, and Tyrus floating Fox Business Network’s Charles Payne as the go-to man.

Village People are scheduled to perform at Trump’s inauguration, frontman Victor Willis announced Monday.
