Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is on a mission to lengthen children’s lives.


The father-of-four has said parents could add 13 years to their offspring’s lives simply by cutting out the fatty and sugary snacks.

“Kids are not born and programmed to pick up a nugget, or a burger,” he said during an interview on Good Morning Britain.

“So it’s our job to make salads, salsas, veg appealing and gorgeous.

“If you can learn to cook you can save money and you will possibly put between 11 and 13 years on your children’s life.”

The Woolworths ambassador wants local councils to ban junk food from being available close to schools.

The 39-year-old also says sugar should be taxed, with all money from the taxes being out into food education programs.

One in four Aussie kids are overweight or obese, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

Being overweight is a major cause of disease in Australia, beaten only by smoking and high blood pressure.
