Fears kids beach toy could lead to drowning
A pop-up kids beach tent sold by infamous online retailer Temu has been urgently recalled over fears it could lead to children drowning.
The shark-shaped tent was being sold by seller YIQISHENG OUTDOOR on the Chinese e-commerce site and featured a small built-in pool.
In a recall notice, Australia’s consumer watchdog said the childrens’ tent did not comply with the mandatory standard for portable swimming pools.
“The products do not have the required warning signs,” the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said.
“Risk of serious injury or death from drowning if consumers are not aware of these hazards.”
Also available in blue and yellow, the tent was sold by a Temu seller between October 5 and October 28, 2024.
Anyone with the Chinese manufactured product was urged to stop using it immediately and to contact YIQISHENG OUTDOOR to request a refund.
It comes after Temu were forced to recall a jumper sold on their online shopfront after an eight-year-old girl suffered severe burns to her face and body.
A Temu spokesperson said the company had been “in communications” with both the family and the merchant involved, and that it took “product safety very seriously”.
