Two men were sentenced to decades in prison after they were found guilty of drugging, raping and murdering a 24-year-old father in Scotland.

The Crown Office & Procurator Fiscal Service says Dylan Brister, 27, and Cameron Allan, 21, who are described as a couple, spiked the drink of Calum Simpson in Fife in November 2021.

The couple then sexually assaulted Simpson and recorded it on a cell phone, authorities said. The BBC reported that Simpson later died as a result of intoxication.

Brister and Allan were both convicted of murder, sexual assault and rape in July 2024. The former will serve a minimum of 23 years in prison, while the latter will do at least 19 years, authorities said.

Moira Orr, the prosecutor who tried the case, called the actions of Brister and Allan "depraved."

“They showed a blatant disregard for their victim’s safety and life by spiking his drink with drugs before subjecting him to the most harrowing sexual abuse," Orr said in a statement. “We have worked hard to deliver justice for Calum Simpson and his family, who continue to deal with the devastation and trauma of losing their loved one."

The BBC reported that Simpson's youngest child was born just 11 days before he was murdered.

Bobbie Cowan, Simpson's girlfriend and mother of his children, spoke to The Sun.

“The night Calum went out, we’d had a few words and he left on a bad note," she told the paper. "It was nothing serious but I’ll always regret that because they were the last words we ever spoke to each other."

Cowan says her "world fell apart" after learning of Simpson's murder and that she was "sickened" that he had been raped.

“The children and I miss him terribly," Cowan told the paper. "They each have a teddy bear which has Calum’s voice inside, saying: ‘I love you and I will see you soon.’ It breaks my heart.”
