Sportswear Brand Slammed for Sexist Washing Labels

A sportswear brand has caused outrage for its sexist washing instructions.

Salvo Sports stitched labels into its football shirts that instructed owners to give the item to a woman to wash.

The label read: ‘Washing instructions: Give this shirt to a woman. It’s her job.’

The Indonesian clothing brand printed the instructions on the shirts of Super League football team Pusamania Borneo.

After coming under fire on social media, the company was forced to apologise yesterday, which ironically was International Women's Day.

However, the apology was backed up by some tweets by the company that suggest they still don’t seem to realise the magnitude of the fashion faus pax.

‘The message is simply, instead of washing it in the wrong way, you might as well give it to a lady because they are more capable,’ read one tweet.

‘There is no intention to humiliate women. In contrast [we want to tell the men] learn from women how to take care of clothes,’ a follow-up tweet explained.
