Interview: Morrison

Kylie Radford the designer behind top Australian fashion label Morrison, talked to us about the inspiration behind her 2012 spring/summer and why her label doesn't follow trends.

What’s the inspiration behind your latest collection?
We have focused on androgynous chic for the Summer 2012 collection - Prêt. You will notice oversized blazers and man style pants feature quite heavily in the collection. We have also played with female and male dress codes so the oversized man style pieces are seen alongside softly draped tops and dresses.

I was also inspired by the importance of being content in oneself - When you can be who you are and not live through the expectations of others.

Should we except some surprises at your fashion show next week?
No surprises, we have stayed true to our brand. You can expect a strong and edited collection

Where did the Morrison name come from?
For our loyal dog ‘Morrison’ he was a Kelpie Cross

As a husband and wife team, who does what?
I am the creative director so look after the designing and fabric sourcing
And my husband Richard is the Business development director

Where do you go to get inspiration for your designs?
We draw inspiration from travel, our clients and each other.

I read that you don't follow trends but focus on designing classic and timeless pieces. How do your designs evolve?
Our design process starts with sourcing fabrics from all over the world and again we look to our clients and each other.

If you could dress anyone, who would it be and why?
Cate Blanchett as she embodies our label completely- She is timeless, effortless and has a distinct androgynous style.
