The Duchess of Cambridge has appeared at her first official engagement since her pregnancy was made public after she was admitted to King Edward VII hospital in London on December 3 for acute morning sickness.

Despite her recent illness, which saw her cancel a scheduled appearance at the premiere of 'The Hobbit', Catherine honoured her commitment to attend the annual BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Awards.

The 30-year-old is clearly a keen sports fan - she was an enthusiastic spectator at the London Olympics this year, and spent the day playing hockey at her old school only one day before being hospitalised for hyperemesis gravidarum.

Kate, who is rumoured to be around 11 weeks pregnant, looked better than ever in a retro green floor-length gown by Alexander McQueen, one of her favourite designers, which she matched with black Jimmy Choo heels, Kiki McDonough blue topaz earrings, and of course her bright smile and glossy brunette tresses.

The Duchess joined David Beckham (he of another type of UK royalty) to present the award for Sports Personality of the Year to popular English cyclist Bradley Wiggins, winner of this year's Tour de France.
