Cara Delevingne’s Godmother Joan Collins Has Some Advice for Her: Don’t Be an Actress

These days, we’re never quite sure how to categorize Cara Delevingne’s current career.

On one hand, she’s said repeatedly that she’s ready to leave the world of modeling behind in order to act full-time.

But on the other, modeling is still undoubtedly the job for which she’s best known.

And, if it were up to her godmother—who happens to be fellow famous Brit Joan Collins—she’d definitely stick with it.

Collins, 82, spoke with The Cut recently about what advice she’s given her famously bushy browed goddaughter about the acting industry—and Collins certainly wasn’t holding back.

“’Don’t,’” she said.

“That’s what I always say to [Delevingne]. I said to her—from when she said she wanted to be an actress when she was about 16—I said, ‘You know what Jack Nicholson always said in that movie As Good As It Gets? ‘Just what the world needs: another actress.’”

Collins then added, “No, but I told her, ‘Just learn your lines and be as honest as possible.’”

We’re sure at least some of Collins’s advice was said in jest—after all, both women are slated to appear in the upcoming film version of Absolutely Fabulous.

But still: Nothing like having a family who supports all your dreams and ambitions, right?!
