Fans have been left furious after Netflix announced the cancellation of Drew Barrymore’s zombie comedy series Santa Clarita Diet.
This story may contain spoilers.
The streaming giant released a statement announcing the show’s sudden cancellation this morning, ending the series after only three seasons.
The show’s third season premiered last month, and after a ten-episode run ended on a cliffhanger, much to fans’ dismay.
The show first premiered in February 2017, and followed the lives of Sheila and Joel Hammond, a suburban couple grappling with Sheila’s transformation into a flesh-eating zombie.
Starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant, the unusual comedy series gained a cult following, and was well received by critics.
Fans have taken to Twitter to share their devastation, particularly after the nail-biting ending that will now never be resolved.
#SantaClaritaDiet was so unique, so genuinely, laugh out loud funny, and so full of heart. The fact that Netflix canceled this show is ridiculous. pic.twitter.com/wGsJqYLep6

Netflix thanked the cast and crew, “for three hilarious seasons for Netflix members to discover for years to come.”
“The world had never known a ‘zom-com’ until Santa Clarita Diet and we’re indebted to creator Victor Fresco for bringing this idea to Netflix,” they said.
