It’s been a hot minute since Fairy Tail was a big name in the anime world, after the original series ended its run in 2019, but once upon a time, it was up there as one of the biggest names in anime. After a five-year break, a Fairy Tail sequel series is about to air soon.
The official website for Fairy Tale: 100 Years Quest has revealed that the anime adaptation for the sequel manga will start airing in July in Japan, according to ANN. The new series will be produced by JC Staff, the animation studio behind series like One-Punch Man seasons 2 and 3, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, and Revolutionary Girl Utena, among many others.
Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest will see Natsu, Lucy, Happy, and Erza taking on the fabled “100 Years Quest,” a challenging job that nobody has ever attempted since the founding of the guild. The gang will be heading to an all-new continent, where they’ll come across new enemies, new friends, and mysterious new threats.
The original Fairy Tail anime ran from 2009 to 2019, and for much of that run it was pretty popular. It had a little bit of a rocky production, with a number of different studios working on it throughout its decade-long run, and ultimately started falling off in popularity in 2017 or so.
The manga kept going, though, telling the story of what happened after the original story wrapped up. The 100 Years Quest manga is still running today, after starting in 2018, and so far 17 volumes, comprising some 150 chapters, have been released.
A specific release date for the Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest has not yet been revealed, nor has a Western release been announced yet, but both are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
