Erykah Badu and Michèle Lamy Host Document Journal’s Pre-Met Dinner

A 9 p.m. dinner on a rainy Sunday evening would ordinarily be quite the ask, but the night before the Met Gala, plenty of fashion folk were happy to step away from their fittings and last-minute appointments to let loose.

Document Journal’s Nick Vogelson, together with Erykah Badu and Michèle Lamy, took over Jean’s on Sunday night for a dinner party that drew Daniel Roseberry, Jason Wu, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Patti Wilson, Alex Consani, Luka Sabbat, Mickalene Thomas, Tyler Mitchell, Miles Greenberg, Delaney Rowe, Teddy Quinlivan, Kendall Werts and more.

A flutist lured guests into the red light-filled dining room, creating an unusually zen ambience, where some like Gabriella Karefa-Johnson had taken to their booths early. Others gamely made small talk by the bar, like Wilson, who hung next to a gentleman in an Ozempic baseball hat.

Badu arrived in her own time, with plenty of extra guests in tow, and later treated the guests to a turn behind the DJ station.

The Document dinner was one of several parties held Sunday night to kick off Met Gala festivities (for those who weren’t at home doing beauty prep, that is). Saks and Stella McCartney celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a dinner at L’Avenue, while Monse’s Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim toasted Pamela Anderson down at La Mercerie. And UTA gathered their own crowd at a pre-Met party, drawing Lizzo, Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union.
