Em Rusciano tears up on The Project over Chrissy Teigen’s loss
The Project panelist Em Rusciano teared up on last night’s episode of the show, as she opened up about her miscarriage.
It came as they were discussing the heartbreaking news that model Chrissy Teigen had lost her third child, following several days in hospital battling to maintain the pregnancy.
Em called Chrissy’s Instagram post showing a carousel of pictures of the moment ‘incredibly brave and raw’ and ‘something that stopped me in my tracks today, it took all the air out of my lungs’.
“That kind of intimate pain, when I looked at it, it took me back,” Em said.
“When I went through it I felt so alone and so overwhelmed and to have someone of her stature post that, because she has so many followers, I think so many women are going to feel seen and so many women are going to be given permission to grieve properly.
“I hope that this encourages more people to talk about it, because it is a horrible thing to go through and to feel alone when so many of us do go through it, I really hope that something good comes from this.”
She went on to say that the conversation around pregnancy loss and miscarriage needs to be thrown open.
“You find out about it when talking to girlfriends, and they say ‘I’ve had one too’. Not at the time, when they need the most support and love, it’s after,” she explained.
“You go through so many things, and you blame yourself. It’s a strange grief. It’s a different kind of grief, and I’ve never experienced anything like it.”
Taking to her Instagram page later, Em wrote: “This was tough. Honestly, I’ve had to come home and have a big cry. It’s scorched earth stuff this kind of grief. I’m just so sorry for her. For any of you who have felt this kind of raw intimate loss.
Em’s fans rushed to thank her for opening up on the show, with one person writing on Instagram: “Beautiful sentiments re the devastating news from Chrissy Teigen.... so sad. Heartbreaking.”
“So proud of you holding it together to talk about Chrissy Tiegan tonight. I could hear your voice breaking & I couldn’t hold it together at home just watching,” another said.
“Thank you for your beautiful compassionate coverage tonight so people know this tragedy doesn’t discriminate and the pain is very real and extraordinarily lonely.... still is some days,” another person wrote.
Chrissy Teigen, who is a mum to four-year-old Luna and two-year-old Miles, had been on strict bed rest for this pregnancy after it was deemed high risk and made the sad announcement on Thursday afternoon.
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” she wrote in a caption of her sitting heartbroken on a hospital bed.
“We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”
In a Tweet an hour later, the mum shared her distress at leaving the hospital.
“Driving home from the hospital with no baby,” she wrote.
“How can this be real?”
Everyone from celebrity pals to fans reached out with touching words of support, many thanking the star for being brave enough to share a loss that is often kept private.
“My heart breaks for you,” one woman responded. “Every mom’s worst nightmare.”
“Thank you for sharing this experience,” another wrote. “You are bringing light to what has long been shrouded in darkness.”
