Mary Louise Parker and David Alan Grier have been tapped as guest stars of Season 2 of CBS’ “Elsbeth,” the mystery spinoff of “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight” starring Carrie Preston as the de facto detective Elsbeth Tascioni.
Parker, best known for her star turn in Showtime’s “Weeds,” will play Freya, a decluttering guru with a minimalist lifestyle brand and a controlling personality. “When her husband threatens her perfect sense of balance, she murders him to keep the third in their throuple all to herself,” reads the logline.

Grier, who currently stars in the NBC sitcom “St. Denis Medical,” takes on the role of Arthur Greene Jr., the highly professional owner of a family mortuary that caters to the one percent. Per CBS, “Discretion is everything to Arthur, so when his conspiracy-minded nephew threatens to unearth the truth about a famous author’s botched funeral, he does what must be done to keep the secret buried.”
“Elsbeth” is a police procedural dramedy that typically functions as a “howcatchem” mystery show rather than a “whodunit,” meaning the audience usually knows who the murderer is at the beginning of the episode. The series premiered in February 2024 and kicked off its second season just months after the first season finished airing.
Parker recently wrapped on the MGM+ thriller series “The Institute,” based on the Stephen King novel. She’ll next star in Paramount’s limited series “The Gray House,” and she’s seen alongside Ayo Edebiri in “Omni Loop,” which premiered at SXSW in 2024. She won an Emmy and Golden Globe in 2004 for her role as Harper Pitt in HBO’s “Angels in America,” and she won another Globe two years later for “Weeds.”
Grier is a Tony-winning actor whose career took off after his role on the sketch comedy series “In Living Color.” He also starred on the Fox comedy series “Martin” and is an acclaimed stand-up comedian. His recent roles include “They Cloned Tyrone,” “The American Society of Magical Negroes” and the 2023 remake of “The Color Purple.” Grier is represented by Activist Artists Management, Innovative Artists Agency for theatrical and Michelle Bega for public relations.
