Dylan O'Brien Jokes He's 'Okay' If Dan Aykroyd 'Hates' His “Saturday Night ”Portrayal of “SNL” Comedian (Exclusive)

"I hear we're very similar, in a way that I never knew," O'Brien also tells PEOPLE of himself and Aykroyd, whom he plays in the film

Dylan O'Brien has big shoes to fill in Saturday Night — and he's fine with that!

Speaking with PEOPLE about the upcoming film, in which he stars as Dan Aykroyd, the 33-year-old addressed the pressure that comes along with playing someone still living.

And for O'Brien, "I'm okay if my guy hates it," he jokingly says. "It's acceptance. That was my method."

While he hasn't yet met Aykroyd, 72, O'Brien is looking forward to when he gets to do so, saying he "can't wait" and is "0% terrified."

"I hear we're very similar, in a way that I never knew," the Teen Wolf alum says. "I feel like we're going to get along."

Saturday Night tells the story of the 90 minutes before SNL went live for the first time on Oct. 11, 1975. Written by Oscar-nominated director Jason Reitman (Juno) and Gil Kenan, the movie is based on interviews conducted with the cast members, writers and producers of one of the most famous pilots in TV history.

The film will focus on SNL creator Lorne Michaels (Gabriel LaBelle) and the famous cast he worked with: O'Brien as Aykroyd, Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase and Lamorne Morris as Garrett Morris.

Other cast members include Ella Hunt as Gilda Radner, Emily Fairn as Laraine Newman, Kim Matula as Jane Curtin, Matt Wood as John Belushi, Nicholas Podany as Billy Crystal, Nicholas Braun as Jim HensonKaia Gerber as Jacqueline Carlin, Rachel Sennott as Rosie Shuster, the late Philip Seymour Hoffman’s son Cooper Hoffman as Dick Ebersol, Jon Batiste as musician Billy Preston, Willem Dafoe as David Tebet and J.K. Simmons as Milton Berle.

Additionally, Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard will make an appearance in the movie as an NBC page. Andrew Barth Feldman, Tommy Dewey and Matthew Rhys also star in the film.

Aykroyd appeared on SNL from 1975 to 1979, starring in sketches like The Blues Brothers and Coneheads, both of which led to spinoff feature films. He also worked as a writer for the late-night comedy show, and bagged five Emmy nominations.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the New York City premiere of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire in March, Aykroyd opened up about O'Brien’s upcoming portrayal of him in Saturday Night.

“We’ll see. You know what, I’m just glad the young actor got work,” the comedian and actor joked. “If he’s compelled to play me, well, I’m glad he got work.”

Saturday Night is in select theaters Sept. 27 and everywhere Oct. 11.
